Can you make a program for volunteers to translate your videos?
Translation into different languages will be nice.
1 voteWe have a way to do this already! If you go to mruniversity.com and look at any video page, you should see a “translate” button under the video.
Clicking on it will take you to a tool that allows you to add subtitles. We greatly appreciate any additions we get!
For example, here’s the link for the first video in our Micro course. http://www.amara.org/en/videos/AfeywxXg5Wel/info/introduction-to-economics/

MAKE Exam AVAILABLE FOR A COURSE FROM 2014!!!!
It would be VERY nice and professional of y'all to have the exam and/or certificate of completion actually available AFTER SITTING THROUGH 55 VIDEOS!!! This course was created in 2014! It is almost 2016!
1 voteHi Bill,
Thanks for the comment – getting the International Finance exam up is on our list. We’re a bit behind I know. We are a very small team.I’m always curious to learn more about what folks are doing with our materials – would you mind sharing with me what you do with our certificate?
I’ll post a note here when the exam is up. Should be within the next few months.
Thanks.

Compress Apple Podcast Videos
Hi Guys,
You´re doing such a great Job, congratulations! I watched all videos from Microeconomics course and Daily Economics.
I had a hard time downloading the videos from Apples Podcast and play them on my iPad, because they are really big. A 3 minute video can be 700 MB size, which is huge, consuming lot of storage on the device, and making it imposible to streaming if you don't have a really fast internet connection.
It would be great if you can compress them.
2 votesThanks for the suggestion. We do compress them but we’ll see what we can do to compress them further.

We don’t have a course specifically designed for that age but I think you could find useful content in both Everyday Economics and Principles. I have a 7 year old and he enjoys them!
Here are some ideas. Drop us a note at [email protected] if you have a specific topic in mind. If we don’t have it we might be able to suggest some other places.

I need help on how to write a proper college paper/academic paper/thesis
I mean, thesis in the college level, not PhD level. Or how do you call it? I am not a native English speaker.

Certificates
I see that the certificate is not printable. Can any body who achieved a course and printed a certificate tell me how?
23 votesIf you have earned a certificate, you should be able to print it as follows:
1) Login to mruniversity.com
2) You should see your profile page – if not, click “my profile” on the top navigation bar
3) On the right you should see certificates you’ve earned – under them you should see “print certificate”.
4) That will bring up a page formatted for printing. On many print screens you’ll see something like “print backgrounds” and “print header and footers” options. Click print background “on”. Leave headers and footers “off”. -
Youtube is banned in Pakistan
I am from Pakistan , we have a problem , youtube is banned in Pakistan , can these videos be uploaded to some other site , like say Vimeo ? or Dailymotion or some other
1 voteTwo ideas pop to mind:
1) Use iTunes – our videos are there as well
2) Download the videos directly from our website (you’ll see a download button under the videos)Hope that helps!

Need some female faces!
I am looking through MRU's videos and I am excited to include some in my courses here at St. Catherine University. Perhaps because I teach at a women's college, I am struck by the lack of female economists in the videos. For that matter, there is a lack of diversity on many dimensions. So many good economists out there! Can you tap some who will show my students that their faces are reflected in our field? Thanks!!

Is it possible to track your progress?
For example, to (automatically) mark the videos you've watched (like Khan Academy does).
129 votesThis feature is coming. I’ll update this thread when it’s live. Thanks for the suggestion!

Like Khan Academy, you should add in a points system to identify top viewers/users
Add gamification to this website! Really, it's like the icing on the cake. Give points for completing a video and/or answering practice questions correctly. I'm not sure how you would code this ... but think about it!
See Khan Academy for an example of this.
26 votesGreat idea Zach. We’re all about incentives here right! This is on our list to do – let me know if you have any ideas on specifics you’d like to see.

Improving long term learning and comprehension of material
The videos and questions are engaging, but without frequent and spaced reinforcement of the concepts and terminology, the ideas will not embed in learners long term memory. students take a multiple choice question and pass but do they really understand the concepts. This is the biggest failure of MOOCs. I recommend including on the website some space repetitive questioning of the material to help push the ideas from short term memory to long term memory. There is a lot to earn from language learning and flashcard websites and apps like Anki, Duolingo and Memrise. You can even develop on Memrise…
1 voteThank you Bryon! No surprise that such a smart comment comes from a fellow Hokie!
I agree that there is much to be done to provide practice materials to reinforce concepts. That’s definitely on our radar to improve.
I’ll check out those apps you mentioned. I appreciate the feedback – feel free to email me directly at roman at mruniversity dot com.

Using MRU with flipped classroom; date for Macro?
Your videos are great and I use them in my classroom and post them on my course website as a kind of hybrid flipped classroom.
When will you have videos up for principles of macro? Thanks!
2 votesThanks for sharing! We’ll be in contact with you as we’re very interested in how our videos are working in a flipped model. You can send feedback directly to me at roman at mruniversity dot com as well.
As for Macro, it’s on deck for this year. I’ll add you to the professor list for course announcements so that you get notified.

Better spam control and author authentication needed
Comments and discussions under the videos could be very useful only if they are kept free from spam. Spammers often post links and ads. One way could be to designate some long time or serious users as moderators.
PS: In case you start such a program, I would love to help with moderation of content
3 votesThank you for the feedback. We are continually battling spammers on both this feedback site and on mruniversity.com. We haven’t gone the way of community-based moderation yet, but if we do so, we’ll let you know! Thanks for the offer.

Continuous Play Option.
It would be awesome to be able to queue up a series of videos. I'm listening to/watching the Development Economics series, and many of the videos are only a few minutes long. I like to listen while I paint my house, and I keep having to stop and run back to the computer to play the next video. It would be nice to be able to select several to play in a row. I could watch/listen to a whole section in one go.
13 votesHi Katie,
Thanks for the suggestion. There are two ways to do this:1) YouTube playlists
If you use a YouTube playlist like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Meo0s54s1sw&list=PL-uRhZ_p-BM4SmRr1p6WZnfym2zP2O0LH&index=2
it will continuously play. We have playlists setup for some of the courses and are in process of setting up all of them.
2) iTunes
We are posting videos to iTunes, which will allow you to do continuous play. We also have just the audio podcast, which combines a whole section’s videos into one podcast. We’re rolling on both the video and audio podcasts continually. You should see more up soon – let me know if you have a particular course you want first.Hopefully this helps!

Using MRUniversity in the Classroom
I'm considering letting my students take your Great Economists course as extra credit, but I'm concerned that they'll get the certificates without actually doing anything. Are the exams locked until all the videos are viewed? Are the exam questions randomized so as to prevent students from sharing answers? Thanks.
10 votesHi Jennifer,
At this time we haven’t locked down the exams in the way you describe. They are more meant to be a way for students to test themselves at this point rather than a rigorous from of accreditation or anything. We might get there someday. Thanks for writing in and please continue sharing your feedback. We are trying to provide a valuable supplement for professors/teachers, so your feedback is greatly appreciated.
We’re working on a teacher resource section – anything you’d like to see there?
