Using MRUniversity in the Classroom
I'm considering letting my students take your Great Economists course as extra credit, but I'm concerned that they'll get the certificates without actually doing anything. Are the exams locked until all the videos are viewed? Are the exam questions randomized so as to prevent students from sharing answers? Thanks.
10 votesHi Jennifer,
At this time we haven’t locked down the exams in the way you describe. They are more meant to be a way for students to test themselves at this point rather than a rigorous from of accreditation or anything. We might get there someday. Thanks for writing in and please continue sharing your feedback. We are trying to provide a valuable supplement for professors/teachers, so your feedback is greatly appreciated.
We’re working on a teacher resource section – anything you’d like to see there?

Downloading should be easier
Currently I can download all the videos of a course using iTunes or using the link below the video.
But:
iTunes is a mess. Classes appear out of order or do not appear at all. Some courses are not there.
Downloading one audio/video file at a time is tiring. There should be an option to download all files from a course with just one click. You could even use BitTorrent.

Is there a recommended course order?
For someone who has little background in economics, is there a recommended course order? The website appears to list the courses in an arbitrary order. Udacity categorizes courses as Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced. Is there a similar ordering for MRU courses?
9 votesHello,
That’s a good question. In general we try to make all of our videos accessible to a beginner. The Everyday content is definitely the most introductory in nature – we’re working on more introductory level content. However, that shouldn’t discourage you from checking out the other courses such as Development Economics or Great Economists. Those are both very accessible as well.
Thanks for your question.

Bring back the Econ Ink stickers! I am almost out and need to order more. How can we make this happen?
I give these stickers as gifts to my AP students at the end of the year, so my stash is running low! I can't find anything I like as much, so please bring them back or release the art so we can print our own!

I wouls
I would add more questions and real world exercises after each video, so that we can better understand theory in action.

International Finance Certificate??
I hear there are no exams yet for International Finance and one will not get any certificates unless you pass the exam. So what must I do to get a certificate for this course?

In Development Economics (and possibly elsewhere), add David Ellerman
David Ellerman has been a major thinker for over 40 years on democratic firms and development economics, as well and philosophical foundations (e.g. inalienable rights and property theory).

Can you please add a feature explaining the reasoning behind each correct solution?
Like Khan Academy, after each question is answered correctly, I feel it'd strengthen the comprehension of a problem to have a quick feature that includes the reasoning process.

Translations
Translating the lectures or adding subtitles to them would help non-English speakers learn about economics. I am thinking of older persons in France, which often have never been exposed to sound economic thinking.

App with the videos as well as the practice problems
MRU Should create an app where you can download the videos to your phone, and be able to answer the practice problems. This should also be integrated into a tracking system tied to your profile.

In your introductory lecture to Great Economists, you say that you will offer a course on Marxian economics. Is that still your plan?
I believe that a course on Marxian economics would be a natural addition to the Great Economists course. It would allow us to understand how the Theory of Value evolved from Smith and Ricardo to Marx.
It would also be interesting to see how Marxism and the Marginal Utility theorists view the world differently.
And finally, we could look at later theorists like Joseph Schumpeter and David Harvey.

Results of Practice Questions
As an instructor, I would like for my students to be able to email me the results of their practice questions via your site. Perhaps a button they can click on to enter my email address. OR, a setting on their profile.
